89

Meaning, one point short of 90.

Dah Commish doesn't like to write about his own teams, but then again it isn't often that a Dah Commish-run team finds itself in first place past the midway mark of a Finks League season.

Dah Commish has enjoyed only four winning Finks League seasons since winning his last championship with Anthony Munoz & Cleopatra in 2012.

So it was with great surprise that Dah Commish's current Saints Preserve Us! won 89-21 in a Week 11 victory over the Dublin Brawlers. The previous week, the Saints! (8-3) scored 70 points in another victory.

The 89 nearly tied the Finks League record of 90 points scored in a single game by Matt Simo's Chicago Blitz, also in Week 11 but in 1995, the second season of Finks League. The Blitz placed third that season.

Here is the Saints!' half of the box score for 89 points:

QB Burrow CIN  18 pts

RB Mixon HOU  23 (Player of the Week)

RB Montgomery DET 15

WR A. St. Brown DET  19

WR Pickens PIT   3

K Fairbairn HOU 11

Saints! starters scored seven touchdowns, three for Mixon and two each for Montgomery and A. St. Brown.

In true Dah Commish style, the Saints! left points on the bench and would have broken Simo's forever record if starting another WR besides Pickens. On the bench, the Saints! had WR Higgins CIN and TE Bowers LV with 11 points each and WR McConkey LAC with five points.

What has made this season even more rewarding for the Saints! is that five starters were auction day selections: Burrow, Mixon, Montgomery, A. St. Brown and Fairbairn. Two other reserves, QB Murray AZ and Higgins, were also auction day pickups.

In case you were wondering, the Saints! are behind the pace of topping Miazga's Eggers for the season-high scoring mark of 853 points from 2014. The Eggers scored 56.9 Finks points per game that season. The Saints! have scored 52.2 points per game this season.

Auction 2024: In Dah Commish's basement

Things to think about while Dah Commish is stuck in his basement with a laptop and 10 Finks League bid sheets in his hand.

BIG MONEY: This year's top bids by position and think about the $35 spent by the Distillers on QB J. Allen BUF. At RB, $29.01 by Mafia on Taylor IND; At WR, $30.53 for Lamb DAL by the Jays and Gaga spent $15.25 on K Koo ATL.

DRAW! The one blind draw in the auction featured a battle between Brawlers and Mafia over RB E. Elliott DAL for a nickel. Brawlers won.

MATH SUCKS: I add up everyone's bid sheet, a time consuming process but necessary. The Eggers went over budget and it cost them a backup kicker. I had to cut several Ks to get the Eggers to $100 so their only pickup in that spot was local LT favorite J. Elliott PHI.

HECTIC BIDDING: The auction's most exciting bidding was a Butker battle for the KC kicker. The Brawlers winning bid was for $4.13. Quags bid $4.11.

COME ON! In the last bidding of the evening, the Jays picked up Dicker and Gay as kickers.

TOUGH LUCK: The Gaters have had tough luck before in previous auctions. This year the boys from Iowa City were outbid on all 12 of their selections at RB. The Gaters' top choice was B. Robinson ATL for a failed $12.80. Robinson went to the Jays for $27.89.

WHEELIN AND DEALIN: Did you hear that trades may begin as soon as you started reading this post? The first free-agent deadline is at 10 p.m. Sept. 11.

FIRST THURSDAY AND FIRST FRIDAY: Will you remember to send your BAL and KC starters to your opponent and Dah Commish by 7:20 p.m. Thursday kickoff Central time? Did you know that GB-PHI is playing in Brazil at 7:15 p.m. Friday?

Catching up with Simo in Vegas

I spent one night in Las Vegas in June and met up with Finks Hall of Famer Matt Simo at his Henderson home. Matt is known as @Vegas_Matty in Sin City and is doing well as the co-founder for a high stakes gambling contest known as Footballcontest.com. The Glen Ellyn native has even been making recent appearances on commercial spots on 670 The Score, usually on Danny Parkins' afternoon show.

Simo lives in Henderson with his wife Jessika and daughter Ella. He's gone Vegas sports crazy as a season ticket holder for the Knights and Raiders. I drove by the Raiders' Allegiant Stadium on the south Strip. It is a huge black flying saucer on the far side of the freeway.

I was in town to see my sister compete in a Mrs. Nevada beauty pageant on the northern outskirts of town. Beforehand, I took Simo's suggestion to see the Mob Museum in Old Vegas. I found it ironic that I traveled all the way to Las Vegas to see the  original brick wall with bullet holes from the St. Valentine's Day massacre, which occurred right here in Chicago on Clark Street.

The highlight of my trip turned out to be on my last stop south of the Strip when I saw the famous "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign before returning to my hotel near the airport. A group of very young girls looking like they were enjoying a bachelorette party were taking pictures in front of the sign. On my way out of the parking lot, two of them flashed their bums at me revealing their G-strings. What happens in Vegas sometimes ends up on Dah Blog.

Week 17: Mafia wins gang war for FB 30

Mafia's Cowboys crush Brawlers for Finks title

CHIGAGO HEIGHTS -- Chicago Heights Mafia and the Dublin Brawlers didn't need Tommy guns, switchblades or brass knuckles to decide Finger Bowl 30. Mafia brought in its Colt-wearing, ropin' Cowboys.

Mafia owner Stan Goff's favorite NFL team featured three Mafia players and they scored 41 Finks points to help Goff extend his league record with his fifth Finks League title. Mafia beat down the Brawlers 53-22 in a Finger Bowl spanning teams from Chicago's South suburbs to the United Kingdom.

WR Lamb DAL scored 15 Finks points with a touchdown and 227 receiving yards to capture Finger Bowl MVP. He becomes the first Finger Bowl MVP from DAL.

Goff's scoring total was his second highest score for a Goff title team. His previously branded Serkus Act won 54-30 in Finger Bowl 21.

Goff's fifth title extended his Finks League total over three-time champions Mike Wilcox and Matt Simo. This is the first Finger Bowl for Goff's Mafia (12-5) brand. His previous four titles under Serkus were in 2017 (FB 24), 2014 (FB 21), 2010 (FB 17) and 2009 (FB 16).

The Brawlers (10-7) were a two-time Finger Bowl champ, but now become a two-time runner-up. Goff's Serkus defeated the Brawlers 40-17 in FB 17.

Week 17: Yeah, Finger Bowl 30 preview

Dublin Brawlers (10-6) at Chicago Heights Mafia (11-5)

At Bloom Township High School

Playoff records: Herigodt 9-4; Goff 12-11

Head to head: Brawlers 44, Mafia 21, Week 1; Brawlers 64, Mafia 43, Week 11

The skinny:  This year's FB 30 features a matchup between Landry Division champ (Mafia) and runner-up (Brawlers).  ... The only previous meeting between Herigodt and Goff in a Finger Bowl came in No. 17 in 2010, won by Goff's Serkus Act 40-17. ... Can Mafia prevent a Brawlers sweep of the season series. Mafia may start as many as three DAL players owns the No. 2 offense in Finks League. ... Goff hopes to extend his record to five Finks League titles. Simo and M. Wilcox are next with three Finks titles each. Goff's last Finger Bowl championship was 2017. Goff now tops Miazga with his eighth FB appearance. ... Mafia isn't the only team reliant on single team players, the Brawlers are likely to start two players from Herigodt's favorite team, the Bucs. No Finger Bowl MVP has ever come from DAL or TB. The Brawlers own two FB titles (2008, 2020) and a third title would move them into Simo-M. Wilcox territory.

Projected starters: Brawlers -- Purdy, McCaffrey, R. White, Evans, Metcalf, Sanders. Mafia -- Prescott, Montgomery, Edwards, Lamb, AJ Brown, Aubrey.

The pick: Brawlers 55, Mafia 50
